The future of medicine will soon be in the hands of today’s youth. Post 247 provides the edge they need to kick-start their career and be empowered, capable healthcare leaders. Former members have become medics for Austin-Travis County EMS and have attended nursing school and medical school.

What We Offer

Healthcare careers are diverse and numerous, and it can be difficult to know where to begin. EMS Post 247 gives youth a solid foundation in basic medical knowledge and gives them insider insight into a world-class EMS system, Austin-Travis County EMS.

Classroom instruction

Weekly lectures taught by the world-class EMTs and Paramedics of Austin-Travis County EMS.

Skills Training

Obtaining vital signs, applying splints and tourniquets, and performing CPR are just the beginning of your skills training...

EMT Education

Explorers are instructed and trained to perform at the EMT level. We don't teach an EMT course, but you will have a solid foundation when you attend EMT school.

Ride-outs

Your education and skills training is put to the test as you ride along on a 911 ambulance and perform skills under the careful supervision of a medic advisor.

Amanda Baker

Lead Advisor

Captain Baker has spent over 15 years in EMS and over 6 years as the Lead Advisor for Post 247.

Jordan Malone

Associate Advisor

A former explorer, Medic Malone is now a field medic for A/TCEMS and serves multiple roles including Explorer Post Advisor, Recruiting Ambassador, and Honor Guard member.

Coty Baker

Associate Advisor

Medic Baker has enjoyed being an Advisor for Post 247 for over 5 years. He lectures, provides skills training, and hosts Explorers on ride-outs.

Fill out an application and receive an invitation to participate in a weekly meeting

Post 247 provides many resources to assist you in successfully completing EMT school once you turn 18

Apply For A/TCEMS

As a recommended member of Post 247, you are eligible to apply for A/TCEMS as soon as you get your EMT license

Post 247 is open to youth from 14 years old until their 21th birthday.
